Memory Lane
For my MFA at Becker College
I had the opportunity to create whatever game I wanted
I teamed up with two of my friends at The School of Visual Arts in New York City and set out to make a game together. This project became Memory Lane
What is memory lane?
Memory Lane is a 2D dungeon crawler-esque game. The gameplay varies depending on the level selected. One level is about finding things in the dark, another is about finding your way through a maze. The development of this game has been documents (and is still being documented on my blog which can be found on this very website
What is the game about?
This game is about a young boy named Simon who is suffering from extreme emotional distress. Each level is the manifestation of an emotion felt by Simon (Fear, Anger and Sadness). The player completes these levels as a way of helping Simon come to terms with these emotions.
What was the inspiration for this game?
The art style is similar to that of the classic Legend of Zelda and Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green. Prospective pixel art environments and characters is meant to give the game a sort of retro feel. The game itself is inspired by the quest Mind of Madness from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim made by Bethesda Game Studios. In this quest, the player is transported into the mind of a deceased mad emperor, Pelagius the Mad. The goal of this quest is to fix the mind of the madman by solving puzzles representing various feelings and thoughts of the late emperor.
